Words Are Inert

"Words are inert. They’re just symbols…so much of our experience is intangible…And yet, you know when we communicate with one another, and we feel that we’ve connected and we think that we’re understood, I think we have a feeling of almost spiritual communion. And that feeling might be transient, but I think it’s what we live for.”

Sometimes, I wonder if I was only an English major in college because I didn’t know what else to be.
Then, I realize that the reason I was an English major was because I love to write. I am passionate about creating, and I am daily enthralled by the ability to share a little bit of myself or a particular experience with the world. For me, writing is about a longing for that spiritual connection with others, to find a commonality with my fellow humans through the written word.

It gives me such pleasure to be able to embue lifeless words with a vivacious spirit, in such a way that mere symbols can have a profound effect on someone’s life
